Director Anurag Kashyap’s trick doesn’t click the flick ‘No Smoking’ as his nightmare vision in the film looks something like Stephen King’s ideas which were implemented from Quitter’s inc., one of the three horror-sultan king’s stories that form the film Cat’s Eye.

The film is an odd and uneasy mix of horror and sci-fi. The lead character played byJohn, known just as ‘K’ (kafka) keeps getting married and divorced and smokes a lot. His wife-cum- secretary played by Ayesha Takia threatens to leave unless he quits smoking.
The film is slow at box-office and doesn’t seem to do much better more as both Om-Shanti-Om and Aaja Nachle are scheduled to release soon.

Kashyap thinks that only men go through the wiered adventures and women stay calm as wives, secretaries and slaves. Kashyap hardly likely to find an audience of film buffs to endure his off-the-wall narrative techniques despite of making an item number with Bipasha.

Close on the heels of completing 'Sivaji The Boss’, director Shankar was assigned to direct Shahrukh Khan for a mega –budget movie 'Robo'. The movie was supposed to star Shahrukh Khan and the latter even agreed to produce the movie.
The latest buzz is that the project has been dropped. Both Shankar and Shahrukh have mutually agreed to pull out of the project.
When queried the reason, Shahrukh said, "I was impressed with the storyline. I was supposed to act in Shankar's Hindi remake of 'Mudhalvan'. Hence I was keen on doing 'Robo'. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, 'Robo' has been shelved."
On his part, Shankar said, "I gave the English version of the 'Robo' script to Shahrukh. He liked it very much. Though we decided to do the movie, we could not come to terms with few other things. Hence we decided to pull out of the project."

Shahid Kapur has finally broken his silence that he maintained for several days even after his return from shooting in Canada. Sir Ben Kingsley, known for his role in Oscar winning Gandhi, is making a movie on the creation of Taj Mahal and the last days of Shahjahan, the fifth Mughal emperor. The film, to be co-produced by Kingsley, will have the actor himself portraying the role of Shahjahan, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will play his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

It is now learnt that Sir Ben signed on Bipasha Basu to play Shahjahan's daughter Jahan Ara Begum, who looked after her ailing father after he was imprisoned in his old age, by son Aurangzeb, in a citadel from where he continuously gazed at Taj Mahal, the monument of love he had got built for his love Mumtaz.

The movie will go on to the floors early next year and will be shot in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.

New York-based Indian filmmaker Mira Nair likely to push Tabu's name for an Oscar nomination this year. The talented actress played the central role in her film The Namesake.

'She is definitely going to project Tabu as a potential best actress at the Oscars. Though Irrfan Khan is as good, if not better, the focus of Nair's Oscar campaign for her masterly study of the Indian diaspora is likely to be predominantly Tabu,' said a source close to the project.

'Irrfan is excellent. But he lacks what the Americans are looking for in their Oscars recipe. Tabu is exotic, glamorous and mysterious. This is her first real exposure to the Western audience. And they're lapping up her Bengali act, thick accent and all. On top of that she's also wowing the westerners with her performance in Cheeni Kum,' added the source.

Will Tabu be the first Indian actor to win an Oscar?

'Why not?' says Mira's creative compatriot Deepa Mehta. 'She's amazingly good, on a par with any of her Western counterparts,' said Mehta who six years ago offered Tabu the lead in 'Water'. The deal fell apart.

'Eklavya' is India's official entry at the Oscars

Eklavya - The Royal Guard has been voted as India's official entry to the Oscars. This is the third time Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be going to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

His short non-fiction film, An Encounter With Faces was one of the first Indian films to be nominated for an Oscar in 1980. In 1989, Parinda was sent to the Oscars as India's official entry.

Commenting on this news, Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, "I'm elated by the news. But this was only the first battle. The real one is still ahead. I'm leaving for the US on 2nd October and will start my groundwork there. I'm banking on my previous experiences at the Academy and the overwhelming support the film has received in the West. I hope to make India proud."

Eklavya - The Royal Guard has already received accolades in Hollywood. The film got a standing ovation at the Billy Wilder Theater in UCLA, where it was recently screened as part of the India Splendour Film Festival.

Robert L. Friedman, the former President of Columbia Pictures and AMC Theaters applauded it as one of the great foreign films to have graced Hollywood in recent years.

He further added, "The caring and most talented direction by Vidhu Vinod Chopra is worthy of maximum praise and awards. Mr. Chopra has created a masterpiece via this film, thanks to his genuine insight and love for his film vehicle. Hrithik Roshan has upset his childhood pal, Farhan Akhtar's family. He had given his nod to do Farhan's sister, Zoya's directorial debut film, Kismet Talkies but now he has opted out of the film after keeping her hanging for 2 years.
bollywood source informs, "The Akhtars are naturally very upset with the Dhoom 2 star but are too dignified to be verbal about it. When he was first offered the film, he took a long time to say yes. Then with the superstardom which he achieved post Krrish and Dhoom 2, he approached them saying he would like to have certain suitable changes to be made in the script to fit his new larger than life, superhero image. He had also hinted at changing the heroine(kareena kapoor)opposite him."
Zoya reworked (also taking dad Javed Akhtar's help) the complete script in a few months time and again went back to Hrithik, but also stood firm on her decision to cast Kareena in the film. Yet again the Jodhaa Akbar star wasted her time and did not give his final commitment. “Just last week he told both Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, who were going to produce this film, that he is not interested in the project anymore. Also, since the Jodhaa Akbar shoot has been postponed, his dates diary has gone awry. He wouldn't be able to adjust anything because Krish 2 is scheduled to follow, going on the sets soon," adds the source. A very close source to Hrithik admits, "He will not be working in Zoya Akhtar's Kismat Talkies. He had liked the script, post the changes but the role was appearing more mature than his age. All these dates which he had in mind to allot to Zoya's film will now be given to dad, Rakesh Roshan's Krrish sequel. He and Farhan know each other too well and have done Lakshya together so Farhan we are sure will understand it and not hold any grudges against him."

Aamir Khan's Ghajini remake's next schedule goes on sets next month with a changed script. Aamir was unhappy about the original Tamil version's last 30 minutes of the film.

Bollywood source informs, "Aamir with a new look (bald head) will be starting the next schedule of his produced and enacted film from next month. He has made various changes in the film's pre-climax and climax portions.

The Tamil version's entire climax takes place in a medical college where the hero (Tamil actor Surya) takes on the villain played by Pradeep Singh Rawat ( lagan co-star). There is actually a double role of the villain and the hero fights both of them in a hand to hand combat there. But before this fight happens, the villain and his goons come chasing the second heroine (Nayantara) to her college. They disrobe and kill a medical student and announce they shall keep doing so until the hero comes out of hiding. Also the villain's track features a women trafficking for prostitution angle

The source adds, “Aamir knows his biggest fan base is the family audience. He wouldn't like to portray such stuff that he himself did not like in the first place when he saw the original. He got this entire portion re-written. His Hindi version script remains true to the remaining part of the original though.”

" The film stars Aamir along with south actress Asin who also played the same character in the original and Nishabd starlet Jiah Ali Khan. Jiah plays the medical student in the film.

In his blog the actor has playfully mentioned that he likes to include at least one kissing scene with his heroines as a compulsion in all his film contracts. Preity Zinta has been signed by Deepa Mehta for her next, Heaven on Earth. The dimpled actress has not been signing any regular Bollywood fare for a long time now and is all set to follow the off beat cinema path only. She has even cut down on her ad film assignments.

A source close to Preity tells us, "Preity has been signed by the Water maker to play the role of a battered housewife who is stuck in an abusive marriage. It is inspired from a true life tale that took place in Canada a few years back. In fact the Toronto based filmmaker had even made a documentary on her, Let's Talk About It. In the film Preity's character will be called Chand and the film will not just focus on the domestic violence the lady faced but will also explore the fantasies of a battered woman. The shooting for this film starts from November 5 with shooting schedules planned in India and Canada."

Preity is ecstatic at the response her first English film, The Last Lear generated at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week. Hollywood critics have highly praised her performance in this Rituparno Ghosh film co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Arjun Rampal. This has made her stand firm on her decision to look towards meaningful cinema in the West.

Her next Bollywood release Har Pal is directed by Jahnu Barua an art-house filmmaker and later on she shall be seen in Shaji Karun's Suryamukhi, a non-commercial fare based on the life of famous 19th century painter Raja Ravi Varma," the source says. "When her Head and Shoulders ad contract was to be renewed recently, she decided not to continue with it. Now Kareena Kapoor has been signed on for that one," the source says. "Also recently many A-list filmmakers were hoping to get her in their films but she has not accepted any of their offers," the source adds before signing off.

Rajnikant will be seen paying homage to reigning Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and yesteryear stars Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand in his Hindi dubbed version of Sivaji.
A special song set to tune by A.R. Rahman will be picturised on Rajnikant in a Chennai studio which features the south superstar donning exact looks of the three stars.
Our sources inform us, "As Sivaji is being dubbed into Hindi a lot of changes are being made to adapt it to Hindi cine fans' sensibilities. This special song is a part of it. It will feature Rajnikant in a song trying to woo the film's heroine, Shriya (Awarapan) in three various avtaars." "The song will begin with a black and white setting with Rajnikant made to appear as Dev Anand and Shriya as yesteryear actress, Sadhana with the tune based on a song of the Dev-Sadhana jodi. The second part of the song will have an Eastman colour look, (a prominent feature of the mid 60s-70s Hindi cinema). In this part, Rajni will be impersonating, Shammi Kapoor, who was amongst the most popular dancing heroes during those times. Shriya will be made to appear as Saira Banu with him. The third and final part will have the superstar doing a SRK. Rajni will appear as Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge's SRK with Shriya as Kajol from the same film," our source reveals. Doing an Amitabh Bachchan was also suggested to Rajnikanth but it is learnt that he refused to do so out of his tremendous respect for the ageing superstar and his co-star of old films like Andhaa Kanoon and Geraftaar. In the original Tamil version, there was a similar kind of a song featuring the lead pair where Rajnikanth impersonated Tamil cinema stalwarts - MGR, Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal Haasan. For the film's dubbed Telugu version Rajnikanth re shot this song, disguised as Telugu superstars - NTR, Nageshwar Rao and Chiranjeevi. This move worked to the film's advantage and the song ended up gaining tremendous popularity. S.C. Babu, CEO of AVM Pictures, producers of Sivaji tells us, "We are dubbing the film in Hindi after its overwhelming response in major non-Tamil speaking cities like Delhi and Mumbai. It was necessary to re shoot certain portions to cater to the Hindi speaking audience. Rajnikanth will be dedicating three to four days for its shooting. But it is less likely that he himself will be dubbing for his Hindi portions." "We are planning a post-Diwali release. We don't want to release a dubbed version during the festive season," he adds.

Katrina Kaif visited boyfriend Salman Khan in Jodhpur Jail on Sunday.

Prisoner no 343 in the central jail in Jodhpur, Salman Khan, had some special visitors
on Sunday -- his girlfriend Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif
and other members of his family.
Katrina arrived in Jodhpur from Mumbai in the afternoon with Salman's brother Arbaaz Khan
and sisters Alvira and Arpita to meet the star.

Salman was arrested on Saturday in the wake of a local court rejecting his appeal against a
five-year jail term in a poaching case.

Though the jail's visiting hours for the day had ended, the Superintendent
allowed Katrina and the others to meet Salman for about half an hour at around 3 pm.

Salman Khan faces an arrest warrant with a court in Jodhpur rejecting an appeal
against his conviction in a chinkara poaching case and upholding the
five-year jail term awarded to him by a lower court.

Forty-one-year-old Salman was not present in the packed
courtroom when the verdict was pronounced by District and Sessions Judge Kamal Raj Singhvi.

Salman was convicted on April 10 last year for poaching of two blackbucks at Ujiyala Bhakhar near Ghoda Farm on September 28, 1998 during the shooting of Sooraj Barjatya 's film Hum Saath Saath Hain .

Salman was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000.

Dismissing Salman's appeal against the lower court order, Singhvi upheld the jail sentence awarded to the actor.
The defence raised an objection that the court cannot pronounce the verdict if the accused is not present,
but the judge cited provisions of CrPC under which it is allowed.
Salman has also been sentenced to one-year imprisonment in another poaching
case of Bhawad and has filed an appeal against it. But the hearing has not started as
the record is pending with the Rajasthan High Court where the state government filed a plea
for enhancement of the sentence.

Celebrity Big Brother has definitely lifted the star status of actress Shilpa Shetty. The actress, who is currently preparing for her first play to be staged in United Kingdom, has been approached to play the next Bond girl. Though the actress refused to comment on it, sources close to Shetty confirmed saying, she has been approached and has been talking to them for a while. Shetty has been spending more time in UK than in India negotiating and meeting producers from the West.

It is learnt that there is quite a possibility of the actress fitting into the role as the current Bond too is a Britisher and Shetty has a huge following in UK which gives her an edge over other contenders for the role of the leading lady in Bond 23.

Shetty has done some action films in Bollywood and has a perfect body to play a Bond girl, said an industry source.
According to sources, it's Shilpa's huge fame in Bollywood that's helping her win the part, as Bond producers think casting her will make sure the movie does well in Asia.
"Shilpa is having secret talks with the top members who are working on the next movie. As far as they are concerned, she has it all - she is beautiful, fiesty and a great actress," a movie source revealed.
"But they also want someone who is a big star prior to the film, which Shilpa is. She has a huge following in Bollywood as well as a number of fans in the Western world - especially in Britain - so she will be great for the box office sales."
The filming of Bond 23 is likely to begin early in 2008, once production on Craig's second Bond movie - with the current working title of bond 22 is completed.
